11 1/2 months to come to the wrong decision.

To those who knew or were interested, the BIG deal I was waiting for didn't materialise. I found out about 12 hours ago.

I am making light of it in view of the fact that I have a lot of very major things going on in my life right now.

How big a deal would it have been? It's hard to put into words exactly. It would have been massive, though. Still, that's the problem with these all or nothing situations. The chances are you are going to end up with nothing.

My next step (in that direction) is to find another major player in the Classical Publishing world. I think there are about 12 Worldwide that are worth considering. I've researched the next best option and a preliminary email will go out next week. This could be a long game.

Commiserations, zn. I know more than most people how hurtful a blow like this can be. I'm sure you will fight your way forward - and all the best for that. But that doesn't make their mistaken, slow motion, rejection of you any easier.

I so nearly had the contract I wanted which would have been the biggest news of my life! I got through 5 levels of chuckers out and right through to the desk of the 8 wise men.

When you submit to B & H they give all the scores to person No.1 who chucks out 60% of the stuff point blank.

The music is then moved on to person No.2 who chucks out another 60%.

So on and so forth through 5 levels of chuckers out.

The big decision was meant to be Sept. 7th. I heard nothing for 2 months in spite of chasing emails.

I must have been about 50/50 for this which is painful considering that they get 3000 to 5000 submissions per year and sign one person every 3 to 5 years.

I don't wish it to sound like sour grapes, but there is a chance that they might already be regretting their decision if they would have known that I already have 4 broadcasters interested in my new CD.

At the end of the day, they are not the only Publishing Company in the World. So I have to move on - and quickly. I mean, if I'm rejected by the top 12 Companies I can probably happily enough give up that particular ambition... but that's still a very long way down the line!

Sorry to hear that. But, it is thier lost. I know the right one will accept you soon. Question. Can resubmit to them aagin. I would keep doing just because. But you are on the road to greatest remember that

  No. I can't resubmit to the same company for about five years. Hopefully by then I will have a worthwhile contract elsewhere!

  Universal Edition handle two of my titles.
  
  Two smaller companies have about 8 titles apiece.
  
  I also self-publish around 200 titles online at Sibelius Music.

    WEll, first it is thier loss and one day they will realize that. By the end of Five years you will one done so much better than they could have done you they will begging you. I have shown some of your works to some people I know and they think so two. I know it was a disappointment. But, I feel it might be this way because you have something greater instore for you.

      It is a loss for both them and me. I could have worked with this company. However, you can't force things. There are probably about 12 other worthwhile companies around and I will pursue these systematically. I am also getting advice from my concert pianist friend regarding the wording of preliminary emails etc.
      
      Within Five years, I agree with you, things should have moved on quite a bit! However, this company has to live (or die) by their decision(s). They've made their decision and they have to live with that now.
      
      Thanks for forwarding my work. That is all helpful. If I know that people are sending around my YouTube compositions (for example) this is all a good help.

      I am in any case, very positive about the future. The next project is the Switzerland CD but there are very many other interesting things happening (seemingly) nearly all of the time.

        When I feel someone has works that are good I always spread the information. You know that the more people are familar with you work the faster you will get to be were you want to be. So I know all will be well for you

        Hi Sheryl, I will have to organise some sort of promo where I email 100+ people one of my best YouTube videos and ask them to forward it to their entire list!

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out. I can only imagine how disappointed you must be. Sounds like you have a plan in place and hopefully next time will go better.

  Hi Jane, Yes, I am slightly disappointed. Not badly depressed or anything, though. It is a great shame as the upside of this would have been big. In short, it would have been the biggest news of my life. That has all fizzled out now and of course I need to move on.
  
  I will be wording up a preliminary email on Sunday that is going to my "next best bet".
  
  I am trying to promote Classical and Jazz style compositions that I've been writing since about 1978!
  
  I have at least 200 that are worthy of getting into real print.
  
  A lot of these are "self-published" currently. Having them real print published is the traditional route to take, but of course we are now living in the 21st Century so who knows if the traditional way is the best way any more?
